about

Having ploughed through the UK underground for the past few years Brighton's Lower Slaughter are set to smash through the fourth wall with the release of their ferocious debut album 'What Big Eyes' on Box Records.

The four piece describe themselves modestly as a band “who make loud riffs” though we at Box Records think the The Quietus description of “lurching noise-rock that occasionally works the angles but is chiefly a showpiece for big fuck-off riffs that call to mind Pissed Jeans, Nirvana and Harvey Milk” is more accurate.

Throughout their debut record Ex Divorce vocalist Sinead Young delivers roaring vocals leading her charging riff comrades into sonic battle. With ferocious lyrics telling stories of oppression and inequality interwoven with a backdrop of witchcraft, apparitions and tuberculosis.

The more discerning listener will draw parallels from these ancient times to modern life and might begin to ask themselves… has anything changed since these dark ages? Indeed, in ‘Take It’ we hear Sinead despair “We try to live our lives but we don’t have the riches, we try to heal ourselves but the government just cut through the stitches, we’ve been dying like this for years”.

Anyone who listens to this ‘What Big Eyes’ and doesn’t feel the urge to (at the very least) step outside and scream “I won’t take this anymore” needs their pulse checking.
